The Java Developer Capstone Series is perfect for anyone wanting to learn the fundamentals of building interactive, dynamic Web applications using Java and J2EE technology. Students will learn the fundamentals of Java then move into a discussion of JavaServer Pages (JSP). Due to the prevalence of databases in Web applications, the Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) API is also covered in detail.

By the end of the class students will be able to:

  • Run and compile Java programs
  • Understand data types, language constructs, and flow control
  • Understand classes and objects, and inheritance
  • Use the JavaServer Pages environment
  • Use the JSP syntax and structure
  • Understand and use many J2SE and J2EE packages, including: java.io, java.lang, java.net, java.sql, javax.servlet, and javax.servlet.http
  • Create pages that work with interactive form data
  • Manage state in Web applications using the sessions and cookies
  • Use JDBC to connect to and modify databases
  • Use XML to transform data for Web pages
  • Learn how to debug JSP applications

  • Prerequisites:
    Prior programming experience in at least one object-oriented language such as a .NET language (e.g., C#, VB.NET), Java, C++, or SmallTalk, or significant programming experience in a modern language such as MS Visual Basic.
