Boot Camp Hours
Class begins each day at 8:00 AM and may extend until 8:00 PM.

Note: Students should expect class to run late into the evening on most days. In a typical Boot Camp, it is not uncommon for some students to remain past 8:00 PM depending upon the class size and experience of the students.

The MCDST certification is a de facto credential for IT support skills declared by the National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies Skill Standards for Information Technology. The certification is focused on validating the knowledge and skill sets of help desk technicians, customer support representatives, PC support specialists, technical support representatives, and technical support specialists.

For those new to Microsoft Windows XP, this course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to troubleshoot basic problems end users will face related to configuring and maintaining applications in Microsoft environments. This course will provide students with the skills necessary to take exams 70-271 and 70-272, which are included in this course.

You Will Take These Exams:

  • Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System (70-271)
  • Supporting Users and Troubleshooting Desktop Applications on a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System (70-272)

  • Troubleshoot system startup and logons
  • Monitor and analyze system performance
  • Monitor, manage, and troubleshoot access to files and folders

  • Configure and troubleshoot hardware devices and drivers
  • Configure and troubleshoot storage devices
  • Configure and troubleshoot Internet applications (e.g. Explorer, Outlook, and e-mail accounts)
  • Troubleshoot network protocols and services
  • Troubleshoot security settings and local security policy
  • Configure and troubleshoot local user and group accounts
  • Troubleshoot the TCP/IP protocol
  • Configure and troubleshoot Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) settings
  • Configure and troubleshoot remote connections
  • Manage Microsoft Outlook data, including configuring, importing, and exporting data, and fixing corrupted data

Who Needs to Attend

The MCDST credential is for IT professionals working in the typically complex computing environment of small, medium, or large organizations. An MCDST candidate should have 6-12 months of experience supporting end users of a desktop operating system.
