This introductory-level class provides a solid foundation for developers to begin leveraging the .NET platform. Topics covered include an introduction to the .NET framework and the Common Language Runtime (CLR), language fundamentals, and object oriented concepts as implemented in .NET.

By the end of the class students will be able to:

  • Learn basic object oriented concepts required to work in .NET
  • Understand objects supported in the framework including basic collection classes, strings, and exception handling
  • Learn the basics of working with Windows applications as well as Web applications and Web forms
  • Learn persistence and data interaction using streams and ADO.NET
  • Understand the .NET languages and work with Visual Basic.NET and C#, with exercises and code samples from each
  • Prerequisites:
    Prior programming experience in at least one object-oriented language such as a .NET language (e.g., C#, VB.NET), Java, C++, or SmallTalk, or significant programming experience in a modern language such as MS Visual Basic.
