This class is designed for people who have no command-line experience in Linux or UNIX and need to move into a position where they can accomplish fundamental end-user and administrative tasks on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux system.  By the end of this class they will be able to perform the functions of a power user or junior administrator. They will be able to effectively install, use and perform basic configuration of a Red Hat Enterprise Linux system.

Students will Learn:

  • Perform basic System Administration tasks such as change users, edit text files, manage software packages, and manage simple security
  • Understand how Red Hat Linux manages files and directories
  • Configure and use the bash Shell and understand the ins-and-outs of redirecting output between programs and files.
  • Work with Red Hat text-processing utilities and text editors
  • Manage functions such as printing and date/time settings, terminating and scheduling program executions.
  • Gain an understanding of Red Hat diagnostic utilities
